Today...

I'm going outside.
To run.
In the rain.
Cause that's how hard core I wanna be.
I'm taking my dog.
Cause I think he'll drag me.
Wish me luck.

We have decided to make our debut into the running world at the
Big D Marathon and 5k in Dallas on April 11.
We have already accumulated two more runners, Fat B's cousin
and my friend Tim....oops I mean Fat T.
It will be interesting to see how many people are running with us come race day!

"When you sleep you snore......"

".....When you run you dream. The dreams float lightly through the first mile but by the last kick, they flash with every step. If I keep this up, I'll never grow old! I'll do a marathon by the spring! I'll never get sick! If I keep going, I'll flush all my toxins! Terrible things will never happen to me! If they do, I'll have the stamina to crush them. If I keep this up, I'll grow better looking with age! I'll be admired and never envied, respected and never feared, loved and never pitied! If I keep this up I can have hamburgers. HAMBURGERS!!"

This is a quote from the Newbie Chronicles in this months issue of Runners World. It made me laugh because I may not dream of all the things of which Newbie dreams but I am definitely a dream runner, and I have definitely dreamt of hamburgers on a run before!

I was on a roll...

I went for a run around the huge pond in our neighborhood. 3 times around is 1.4 miles. It was my first run in 3 weeks and it kicked my butt! I made sure to play lots of "can't stay still" music on my iPod so that I could resist the urge to turn around and run home half way through. I was on a roll, I had just passed the 3.9 mile mark, when I see that my know-it-all, talks-too-much neighbor has shown up to walk his dog. I didn't even hesitate. I abandoned the pride that awaited me at the 4 mile mark to hide. I actually ran in between two houses to avoid what was sure to be a 45 minute conversation about something I could care less about.
More than likely I did run the .1 mile through alley's and streets parallel to the park trying to hide from Mr. Blah-blah-blah. But I'll never truly know.
I'll never know because I still haven't figured out what the heck the stick figures in the instructions are telling me to do to start my sportsband that tracks running distance!
But that is a whole 'nother issue...

Still not hard core,

Today...

2.5 miles... treadmill... American Idol... Sweaty... New Sports Bra... I like it.

Sweaty,
Fat B

Long term goal...

I want to be one of those runners who looks out the window, sees that it's pouring rain, and goes for the run anyway.
Hard Core.

Determined,

Moving up...

I am totally in the middle of moving my entire basement around to accomodate the treadmill. I had been running outside or at the gym with the kids, but I think I would be a lot more productive if I were watching TV while running. HAHA.

The actual running is going well, with the exception of continued pain in my left outer calf. I feel like I could keep running forever if it weren't for that stupid pain. I have decided to work some yoga into the program and stretching to see if that will help with that pain.

New shoes probably would be a good idea too.

Well, I'm off to make some sweat. My goal is to run an entire mile without stopping tonight, with a half mile warm up and cool down. Wish me luck!

Lovingly,
Fat B

Its about time!

Right before Thanksgiving I was so pumped to start running and blogging about it. I had daydreams of coming in from a long jog and sitting down pouring out inspirational quotes onto the keyboard for everyone to read. I live in an idyllic world that exists in my head. It helps me function in the real world.
Who in the heck chooses the weeks that include Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years to start such a challenge? Well I can only think of two of us...
The running has been splotchy at best on my end. But I did acquire an awesome Nike+ Sportsband for Christmas from my very supportive husband. It looks like this:

It tells you how far and fast you ran. It also keeps track of your heart rate and the calories burned during your workout. I am working on syncing it with my shoes. Its a whole scientific thing where you stick a chip that comes with the sportsband into your Nike shoes. Its so scientific I haven't managed to figure out how to do it yet. The stick figure people shown in the instructions seem to have no problems what-so-ever doing it. How can it be this hard for me?

Fat B and I are in the process of choosing where and when we are running our first 5k. Check back soon for the date of that. Keep checking in and join us on this journey. It is sure to be entertaining!

Fat A
